Popular salon manager Dawn Lawrence along with salon co-ordinator Gina Madgwick shared their experiences in the hair and beauty industry in Chichester along with 31 Year 10 students (14-15 year olds) from the Hair & Beauty Diploma that is a brand new qualification that has started this year at Chichester College.
The fact finding day began with some career speed dating, up to 4 students were sat with a business volunteer, and the students had to ask questions about the hair and beauty industry to work out what it was they did, just as a warm up!
The business volunteers could only answer yes or no. They then rotated round a couple of times.
“It was an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about the industry and be part of Chichester’s education for young people!”
Dawn and Gina, along with other volunteers then stood up and gave a brief 3 minute talk about how they got to where they have, what they do now and why they love it. The business volunteers then sat back with the students to help them think about the skills and attributes they have and will need to get into the industry.
Q Hair and Beauty, is a busy salon in Chichester’s North Street. The salon actively engages in work experience schemes and their popular after school club “The Tiger Club”. “It was an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about the industry and be part of Chichester’s education for young people!” says Dawn Lawrence.
