Wireless Straighteners?!

Neuro Styling

Being a woman can be so demanding, especially those typical 5am starts just to look ‘good enough’ for the office. Attempting to multitask between straightening your hair, layering your makeup then changing your mind on which shade of lipstick, all the while tripping over the lead of the GHDs – and that’s all before 5.30am.

For most women, straighteners are a constant companion and for me, are one of my handbag essentials for those ‘just in case moments’ when my hair decides to have a two-year-old tantrum at 8.15am as I arrive to the office looking like I’ve hiked through the desert with Bear Grylls. Then there’s the fear of a suitable plug socket that will also be somewhere practical without use of a handheld mirror, yet all the while juggling notes for meetings and applying another layer to the face after the tube has wiped clean my once-respectable self. We don’t have it easy now, do we?

I arrive to the office looking like I’ve hiked through the desert with Bear Grylls.

Now, after that slight insight into the daily struggle (and forgive me for thinking I’m not alone), you’ll understand how excited I was at being asked by Q Hair and Beauty to trial test the ‘Paul Mitchell Neuro Style Unplugged straighteners’. You’re telling me I can plug my straighteners into my car as well as a wall socket to charge them then use unplugged? ‘Too good to be true’ was my first thought, swiftly followed by ‘why have I not found these sooner?’ Paul Mitchell is a reputable brand and if they’re going to do the job the box leads me to believe, I’ll give them my best shot. Here’s my daily account of using these straighteners and let’s see if they are the saviour I’m praying they will be.

Monday: These Neuro cordless irons did not disappoint on saleability, the packaging; black, bold yet understated with the emphasis solely on the product in a clear perspex box. After charging them overnight I was ready to go. My hair isn’t the easiest (it’s thick but fine) but WOW! I switched them straight to the high setting (400F) and within seconds they were gliding through my hair as my usual straighteners do. Impressive. I did however realise that as you get closer and closer to the top layer of your hair after partitioning it, the stylers lose their heat. I’m not giving up on them yet though, day 1 and I’m leaving the house happy with my hair and have the option of charging them in my car for those mid-morning touch-ups.

within seconds they were gliding through my hair as my usual straighteners do.

Tuesday: Forgive me for pondering over questions such as this at 5am but the name ‘Neuro’ on this product did send confusion. Neuro means related to nerves or the nervous system, how does this in turn relate to hair straighteners? Today I used the low setting first on the styler. In honesty, for me, this option didn’t work as well. The heat (360F) just doesn’t seem to straighten properly and leaves it static like when you accidentally switch a normal pair off without realising and run them through your hair. I upped the temperature and worked quicker with the stylers, finding today my hair seemed smoother and my hair glided better between the bevel-edged plates. Definitely feel myself slowly converting to these.

Wednesday: This morning it’s pouring with rain but I won’t let that dampen my mood (pardon the pun)! Let’s try some curls. I mean even doing a curl in my hair was monumental for me during the week. Well, I can confirm these stylers do curl your hair. Amazing! Yes you need to work quickly, you don’t have the luxury of going over your mistakes as easily as a normal iron, but they are practical and for on-the-go they are a must! My curls kept their shape and I got plenty of compliments throughout the day. We’ve made hump day and I’m still loving this product, bonus!

Today was the turn of a sleek look with a sweeping fringe (I sound like I know what I’m talking about… I’ve no idea, it just sounds nice).

Thursday: Today was the turn of a sleek look with a sweeping fringe (I sound like I know what I’m talking about… I’ve no idea, it just sounds nice). I’m getting faster at using the Neuro Style Unplugged by this point and find it’s keeping its heat longer even after I’ve finished. They’re brilliant for touching up my hair throughout the day as well and my hair is staying in shape for longer than with the use of GHDs.

Friday: Day 5 and it’s the end of a busy, demanding week. Fridays are difficult when it comes to hair, does anyone else find you need something that can easily be converted from daytime to night without looking like you’ve made too much effort? For those ‘just in case moments of spontaneity’. I’ve opted for pinning up sections with a few curls here and there. Easy yet practical. That’s my week complete and my hair is still going strong. I couldn’t recommend this product highly enough! A whole week GHD-free and although I’m not 100% convinced they would be an everyday essential, they’re a very close second. For festival season, camping, holidays and summer in general these are your must-have accessory!

Thank you to Q Hair and Beauty for allowing me to use these ‘Neuro Style Unplugged’ straighteners this week, they have definitely been my go-to product and for their main use being travel, they definitely lived up to their ability to perform.
